Mustard + Bordeaux.. A Bold, Timeless Newborn Palette
Some colour combinations just work.. and the mustard + bordeaux pairing is one of those rare ones that feels both bold and timeless. This newborn session was styled exactly to the family’s request, with rich tones that photograph beautifully while still keeping everything clean, simple, and artistic.
Why Mustard and Bordeaux Photographs Well
Mustard brings warmth and light, bordeaux adds depth and elegance. Together, they create a gallery that feels cozy, refined, and full of personality without looking busy.
In this session, that palette gave us:
-
A warm, golden base that feels like fall sunlight
-
Deep, classic tones that keep the images grounded and timeless
-
A colour story that looks stunning in prints and albums
A Cohesive Gallery With Variety
Even when we keep a strong colour theme, the session still needs variety.. otherwise every image starts to feel the same. Here, we created variety through:
-
Different poses and angles (close-ups, full-body, wide compositions)
-
Textures (wraps, knits, soft layers)
-
Minimal, meaningful props (teddy, bucket setup, simple greenery)
-
A balance between newborn-only setups and family connection portraits
So the gallery feels consistent, but never repetitive.
Styling That Feels Intentional, Not Overdone
The key to using bold colours like mustard and bordeaux is keeping everything else simple. No distracting patterns, no clutter, no chaos.
That’s why the setups stayed:
-
Clean and minimal
-
Softly lit
-
Focused on baby’s features and expressions
-
Finished with gentle textures instead of “theme props”
The result is a strong colour statement that still feels elegant.
Planning Your Newborn Session Palette
If you have a specific colour vision in mind, we can absolutely plan around it. Mustard + bordeaux is perfect if you love warm, earthy tones with a touch of drama.. and it works beautifully year-round in a studio setting.
Warmly,
