How to Prepare for Your Maternity Session: A Simple Checklist

Want to walk into your maternity session feeling calm, glowing, and ready? A little preparation goes a long way — and none of it is complicated. Here's my simple, week-by-week checklist (built from 15 years of sessions) so nothing catches you off guard. Feel free to screenshot it.

2 weeks before

  • Finalize your looks with me at your consultation (remember, the studio wardrobe is included).
  • Book any pampering you'd like — a prenatal massage is a lovely way to relax beforehand.
  • Avoid trying brand-new skincare products this close to your session (no surprise reactions).
  • Stay hydrated — it genuinely helps your skin glow.

1 week before

  • Decide if you'd like professional makeup (I offer it through my Sephora partnership).
  • Confirm who's joining — partner, kids, pets — so we can plan.
  • Do a gentle closet check for any personal pieces you want to include.
  • Keep up the water and rest.

The day before

  • Get a good night's sleep if you can.
  • Lay out everything: any personal outfits, comfy clothes to travel in, snacks, water.
  • Skip salty foods to minimize puffiness.
  • Charge your phone so you can see your gallery preview later with a smile.

The morning of

  • Eat a light meal and bring snacks — sessions are relaxed but you'll want energy.
  • Wear loose clothing on the way over so there are no waistband marks on your skin.
  • Arrive a few minutes early so we start unhurried.
  • If you booked makeup, allow time for it beforehand.

What to bring

  • Any personal or cultural outfits you'd like photographed
  • Comfortable shoes (especially for outdoor sessions)
  • Water and a snack
  • Your partner/kids' coordinated outfits, if they're joining
