Hello, dear moms and dads,
Welcoming your newborn is a time filled with love, change, and all those precious, fleeting moments. As a newborn photographer, I truly believe that your photography session should be more than just capturing beautiful images — it should also be a relaxed, peaceful, and positive experience for your entire family.
Over the years, I’ve learned that small details can make a big difference in how cozy and efficient your session flows. Preparing just a few things in advance helps ensure the experience is not only smooth but also filled with joy, comfort, and calm.
Here are my top 5 gentle and practical tips to help you prepare for your session, based on my experience working with hundreds of families and newborns.
Giving your baby a warm, relaxing bath before the session can work wonders to help them settle into a deeper, more peaceful sleep once we start. This little ritual helps them feel calm, cozy, and ready for those dreamy, curled-up poses you see in my gallery, with your baby feeling relaxed and content.
A warm bath is the best, but also works some skin-to-skin cuddles, or simply undressing them for gentle interaction can help keep them alert and calm just enough before the session, while still feeling loved and cozy.
A well-fed baby is a happy, sleepy baby, and that makes all the difference for a smooth session.
Try to feed right before leaving home or feel free to feed upon arrival — I always allow time at the start for this.
You’ll find a private, quiet room for breastfeeding at my studio, where you can feed your little one in comfort and privacy.
Most importantly, I suggest keeping their routine and feeding habits just as usual — avoid introducing new formulas or making any changes that might upset their digestion. Of course, I always support and respect whatever works best for your family.
For a seamless start, dress your baby in loose, easy-to-remove outfits, like zip-up sleepers or soft gowns. Avoid tight socks, mittens, or clothes that pull over the head to prevent marks and keep them as undisturbed as possible.
Some parents even prefer to bring their little ones wrapped in a cozy blanket over just a diaper, making it easy to begin without waking them.
When preparing for your session, less is more.
A light, organized diaper bag makes everything feel easier and more relaxed.
✔️ Extra milk or formula (even if mostly breastfeeding)
✔️ Pacifier (even if not part of your usual routine)
✔️ Diapers, wipes, burp cloths, a cozy blanket
✔️ Any sentimental items you'd like to include, like heirlooms or cultural attire
Tip:
Pack only what you truly need for the session — a lighter bag helps make your day feel less overwhelming.
Perhaps the most important tip: let go and enjoy this special experience.
These first days are overwhelming, and my studio is designed to be your safe, calm space where you can relax, sip a tea or coffee, and watch the session unfold.
Many moms tell me that the session became an unexpected little break — a chance to just be present, soak in the beauty of their baby, while I take care of the rest.
Remember, I always work at your baby's pace, with patience, love, and care.
Your baby's comfort and safety will always be our top priority, and we’ll follow their rhythm every step of the way.
Preparing in these simple ways allows us to create not just beautiful images, but also a beautiful experience for you and your family.
Because these aren’t just pictures — they are the beginning of your baby’s story. And you deserve to feel calm, confident, and cared for from the very first click.
I can’t wait to welcome you and your precious little one to my studio 💛
Warmly,
Fernanda
