Planning Both Sessions: A Timeline for Your Bump & Baby Photography
Planning two photography sessions around a pregnancy, a birth, and a newborn sounds logistically complicated. It doesn't have to be. Here's the complete timeline, from first contact to final gallery.
The Full Planning Timeline
20–28 weeks pregnant: Book both sessions.
This is the ideal time to reach out. You have a confirmed due date, the pregnancy feels secure, and my calendar has the most availability. We'll set up your maternity session date and place a tentative hold on a newborn window around your due date. One conversation covers both.
28–32 weeks: Your maternity session.
The sweet spot for maternity photography. Your belly is full and round, you're still comfortable and energetic, and the images capture pregnancy at its most beautifully recognizable.
Due date ± a few weeks: Birth.
You don't need to do anything photography-related. Call your people, deliver your baby, rest.
Days 1–3: Let me know baby has arrived.
A quick message confirming baby's birth date. We'll lock in your exact newborn session date within your window.
Days 3–14: Your newborn session.
Ideally within the first two weeks. We'll do your session at the studio or at your home (depending on your package), and I'll send your proofing gallery within a week.
4–6 weeks after session: Final delivery.
Your maternity gallery and newborn gallery are both delivered. Two chapters of the same story, beautifully edited and ready to print, share, and keep.
What If Timing Doesn't Line Up Perfectly?
Life is flexible. Babies arrive early or late. C-section recovery takes time. I've built flexibility into this system for exactly these reasons. The tentative newborn booking adjusts to your actual birth date. If you need a few extra days before you're ready, we adjust.
The only thing that genuinely cannot flex is the outer limit of the newborn window (around 21 days). Beyond that, the session style shifts. But within the first three weeks, we have room.
FAQ
What if I want to meet you before booking both sessions?
Absolutely — reach out via WhatsApp for a quick chat or a studio visit. Many families prefer to meet their photographer before committing.
Can the maternity and newborn sessions use different locations?
Yes. Your maternity session might be studio or outdoor; your newborn session is typically studio or in-home. They don't need to match.
