"Can't I just get a few quick pics?" I hear this now and then, and it's a fair question — so let's talk about it honestly. A 15-minute snapshot session and a full maternity experience might both end with "photos," but what you get from each is worlds apart. Here's what's really going on beneath the surface.
"Can't I just get a few quick pics?" — let's talk about that
A quick shoot can absolutely give you a handful of nice images. But a full experience is designed around you — your comfort, your story, and images you'll actually want on your walls. The difference isn't the number of photos. It's how the whole thing feels and what you're left with.
What you don't see: the planning before you arrive
Long before shoot day, there's a consultation, outfit planning from my studio wardrobe, and a setup tailored to your vision. By the time you walk in, everything is ready for you. That invisible prep is exactly what makes the session feel effortless.
Wardrobe, posing & light — the parts that take experience
This is where 15 years matters. Knowing how to pose a pregnant body so you feel beautiful and comfortable, how to light you to flatter, how to style the right gown for your shape — none of that happens by accident. It's the craft you're really paying for, and it's what turns "nice" into "wow."
After the shoot: editing, gallery & the final art
When the camera's down, the work continues: hand-editing each image, building your personalized gallery, and preparing files and products ready to treasure. A quick shoot often ends at "here are your files." A full experience ends at "here's your art."
Snapshots vs heirlooms: what you'll want in 20 years
Phones are full of snapshots — and we love them. But heirlooms are different. They're the printed, intentional images you'll still have in 20 years, the ones your child will one day hold and say, "That's me." That's the whole point of doing this properly.
What each of my maternity packages includes
From the simple, elegant Essential session to the Full experience with multiple outfits and an outdoor or in-home location, every option includes my studio wardrobe and full posing guidance — so even the most streamlined session still feels like the real thing. You can compare them on my availability page, and see the studio collection on my maternity page.
FAQ
Do you offer mini sessions?
My focus is on the full experience because that's what consistently gives moms images they love — but reach out and let's talk about what fits your budget.
What's the difference between packages?
Mostly session length, number of outfits, and add-ons like outdoor or in-home. More looks means more variety in your gallery.
Is makeup included?
It's an optional add-on through my Sephora partnership at Chinook Centre. Curious if it's all worth it? Read how much maternity photos cost in Calgary.
